Phone Service - Services and Policies
Most on-campus students are provided with one telephone line in their room. This line is shared with all the residents in the room. This phone line provides direct dial incoming and local (campus and local calling area) toll free outgoing calls and is available from the time you arrive on campus. You can also make long distance calls with a calling card that utilizes a toll free number. When you arrive on campus, you will receive your telephone number. You can also sign up for voice mail using the Voice Mail Activation Form. For more specific information, see the topics below.
Room Phones
Each room with phone service is equipped with only one telephone jack. The University does not provide the telephone set, so one person in the room must bring a telephone. Almost any desk model touch-tone phone will work. Do not bring pulse (rotary dial) sets, cordless phones, or phones with a large number of feature buttons. They are not recommended and may not work properly. Do not bring wall type telephones. They cannot be connected to the existing telephone jacks.
Long Distance Service
You can make long distance calls with a calling card that utilizes a toll free number.
Emergency Calls
The primary telephone number for on campus emergencies is 4444. If that number is not answered within six (6) rings, call 9911. 9911 will dial the Snyder County emergency center in Middleburg. If you dial 9911, even by accident, STAY ON THE LINE. If you hang up, the call will still be locked into the emergency center and they will assume that you have an emergency and were unable to complete the call. They will be able to track you down. If you have a real emergency, tell the operator that you have an emergency at Susquehanna University and give them the location and nature of the emergency on campus. If you dialed 9911 by accident, tell the operator that you have no emergency and that you dialed 9911 by accident.
