Marty Owens, Head Coach

Marty Owens enters his sixth seasons as the head coach of the Susquehanna University men's and women's cross country and track & field teams in 2008.

Owens was previously an assistant cross country and track & field coach and later head indoor track & field coach at Westfield (Mass.) High School from April 2001 to June 2002.

He is a member of the Fleet Feet Racing Team and has competed in a number of marathons and other road races around the country as well as the famed Ironman Triathlon World Championship in both 1995 and 1997.

In 2002, Owens finished fourth in the Washington DC Marathon. He finished in the top 10 in the Vermont City Marathon in both 2000 and 2001. In 1998, Owens took second at the Atlantic City Marathon, and in 1999, he finished 13th in the Las Vegas International Marathon.

Owens has also competed in half-marathons, winning the Las Vegas Track Club Half-Marathon in both 1998 and 1999 while finishing fourth at the New Bedford Half-Marathon in 2000. In 1999, Owens was named the Southern Nevada Male Runner of the Year. His personal record in the half-marathon is 1 hour, 8 minutes, 45 seconds, while his best marathon time is 2:27:32.

He is a 1991 graduate of Ursinus College with a Bachelor of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation. Currently, Owens is pursuing his Master of Science degree in exercise physiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Owens and his wife, Kathy, reside in Lewisburg, Pa. Kathy is Susquehanna's executive assistant to the president.


Rachel Drosdick, Assistant Coach

Rachel Drosdick is in her second season as an assistant coach of the men's and women's track & field teams. Drosdick specializes in the jumping events and hurdles.

A native of Verona, N.J., Drosdick is a 2007 graduate of NCAA Division III Muhlenberg College where she was a four-year track & field letterwinner. She currently holds four individual school records for the Mules (indoor and outdoor long jump, pentathlon and heptathlon).

Throughout her college years, Drosdick scored 100 team points in Centennial Conference Championships action, winning the indoor long jump in 2006. In addition, she was a Division III championships provisional qualifier in the indoor long jump and heptathlon and was frequently recognized as an all-conference selection.

As captain, Drosdick was voted Player's Player her senior year. She earned a second-team All-ECAC honor in the pentathlon as a junior.

Drosdick double-majored in French and secondary education while at Muhlenberg.

 

Kaitlin Elias, Assistant Coach

Kaitlin Elias is in her first season as an assistant coach of the men's and women's track & field teams. Elias specializes in the sprinting events and hurdles.

A native of Williamstown, Mass., Elias received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 2004 from Division III Union College, where she was a member of the women's track & field team for four years. She is Union's former women's record-holder in the 55-meter and 100-meter hurdles. She also competed in sprinting and jumping events for the Dutchwomen.

Elias was the MVP of Union's women's track & field team during both the indoor and outdoor seasons of the 2001-02 academic year. In 2003-04, she was a team captain during both seasons.

Elias is fluent in Spanish and taught the language from 2004 to 2008 in the Mount Greylock Regional School District (Mass.) before coming to Susquehanna University. She was also an assistant track & field coach in the district during her time there, working with hurdlers and jumpers. She also served as a coach with the Christmas Brook Figure Skating Club in North Adams, Mass., from 2004 to 2008.
