HUNTINGDON, Pa. Susquehanna University ended its season by splitting a pair of matches in the semifinals and final of the 2008 Landmark Conference women's volleyball championships at Juniata College's Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 8.
Third-seeded Susquehanna (2713 overall) topped No. 2 The University of Scranton (2311 overall), 32 (1925, 2624, 2518, 2125, 1512) in a five-set semifinals thriller at 1:30 p.m. before falling to nationally ranked No. 2 and No. 1-seeded Juniata College, 30 (2521, 256, 2519) in the championship match at 7 p.m.
The 27 wins earned by the Crusaders this year are the most in a single season in program history.
Susquehanna's sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led all players with 24 kills and added a team-high four service aces in an exciting match against Scranton. Jankiewicz also posted six blocks and nine digs. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) banged out 10 kills, served two aces and registered seven digs and two blocks.
Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) dished out an impressive team-high 36 assists in four games. Chase also served an ace and picked up five blocks and six digs. Fellow freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./EastportSouth Manor) posted 14 assists in just two games.
Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and freshman defensive specialist/libero Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) dug out 17 and 15 kill attempts, respectively. Schroeder added a kill.
Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) put down a team-high six blocks to go with nine kills and two digs.
Sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) scored eight kills, served an ace and added five digs and two assists. Junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) contributed 14 digs, four kills and two assists.
Against Juniata, Jankiewicz posted a team-high eight kills and added three digs, one ace and one assist. Hals threw in five kills, two blocks and an assist.
Chase led SU with 13 assists and added nine digs, a kill and a block. Schroeder notched a match-high 16 digs, extending her own school career digs record to 2,103 in the final match of her collegiate career. She is the only 2,000-plus digs player in school history.
Cicioni had a match of four digs, an ace, two kills and two assists. McMahon registered four digs, an assist and a kill.
Nov. 5 (Landmark Conference championships quarterfinals): Susquehanna 3, Goucher 1 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — With a 3–1 win over Goucher College in a Landmark Conference semifinals match at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Nov. 5, Susquehanna University earned a spot in the Landmark semifinals, to be played at Juniata College on Nov. 8.
No. 3 Susquehanna will play No. 2 The University of Scranton at 1:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the championship game at 7 p.m. against the winner of the No. 1 Juniata and No. 4 Moravian College match.
Susquehanna (26–12 overall) defeated No. 6 Goucher (16–16 overall), by game scores of 25–21, 25–27, 25-21, 25–15.
Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led the Crusaders by posting a team-high 12 kills and adding three blocks and one service ace. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) followed with 11 kills, five digs, one block and one ace, while junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) tallied eight kills, two blocks and dug out 13 kill attempts.

LANGHORNE, Pa. — With two wins on Nov. 1 over Marywood University and Philadelphia Biblical University, Susquehanna University clinched its 25th victory of the season, making head coach John “Kuuipo” Tom’s 2008 squad the winningest team in program history. Under the direction of head coach Bill Switala in the 1995 season, Susquehanna posted 24 wins.
Susquehanna (25–12 overall) defeated Marywood (10–14 overall), 3–0 (25–11, 25–14, 25-11) in a 1 p.m. match before taking Philadelphia Biblical (25–10 overall), 3–1 (25–23, 19–25, 25–21, 25–22) in a 3 p.m. contest. Both matches were played at Philadelphia Biblical's Mason Activity Center.
Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) and sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) led the Crusaders with five kills apiece against Marywood. Jankiewicz also served three aces and added a block, while Downing served two aces and dug out five kill attempts.

Jankiewicz posted a match-high 15 kills and made two blocks against the Crimson Eagles. Downing was close behind with 12, and Cicioni had eight. BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Already holding Susquehanna University's career digs record, senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) tallied 52 digs over two matches at the “Old Friends Crossover” at Moravian College's Breidegam Fieldhouse on Oct. 25 to surpass the 2,000 career digs milestone.
Susquehanna (23–12 overall) dropped a pair of matches to Messiah College (16–6 overall) and Elizabethtown College (15–14 overall).
The Crusaders fell to Messiah, 3–2 (25–19, 20–25, 19–25, 25–19, 15–10) in a 1 p.m. thriller before dropping a 3–1 (22–25, 25–21, 25–19, 25–19) decision to Elizabethtown in a 3:30 p.m. match.
Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) led Susquehanna with 10 kills and eight digs against Messiah and added a block. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) served six aces and added six kills and three blocks.
Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) was close behind with seven kills and three service aces, while sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) dropped in eight kills and two blocks and dug out two kill attempts. SU’s junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) had a well-rounded match of six kills, 14 digs and a block.
Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with an impressive 34 assists and posted four kills and nine digs. Schroeder posted 33 digs against the Falcons, while adding an ace and a kill.
Against Elizabethtown, Downing picked up a team-high 10 kills and added nine digs and one block. Jankiewicz smashed nine kills and made five blocks, while Cicioni also dropped in nine kills, served three aces and made two blocks. Hals contributed seven kills and four blocks.
Chase handed out a team-high 31 assists against the Blue Jays, while Schroeder again posted a team-high 19 digs to go with one kill.
Oct. 21 (Senior Night): Susquehanna 3, PSUAltoona 2 Box Score
SELINSGROVE, Pa. Defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) celebrated 2008 Senior Night with a team-high 26 digs and two service aces to go with a kill and an assist in helping to lead Susquehanna University to a thrilling 32 (258, 2325, 2523, 2125, 1715) win over visiting Penn State UniversityAltoona in a non-conference match at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Oct. 21.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Host Susquehanna University split a pair of matches on Day Two of the Third Annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Oct. 18.
Susquehanna (22–10 overall) topped The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey (23–8 overall), 3–2 (25–19, 17–25, 20–25, 26–24, 15–11) in a 12 p.m. thriller after falling to the York College of Pennsylvania (15–11 overall), 3–0 (25–22, 25–23, 26–24) in a 10 a.m. match.
Tournament MVP and sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led SU with 24 kills and three service aces against Richard Stockton. Jankiewicz also posted three blocks and five digs that match.
Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) posted her second 30-plus-dig match of the season with a team-high 32 digs against Richard Stockton. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico Susquehanna University dropped a pair of women's volleyball matches on Oct. 11, losing to host Universidad del Sagrado Corazon, 30 (2725, 2515, 2522) in a 1 p.m. match before falling to host Universidad Metropolitana, 30 (2515, 2516, 2515) in a 3 p.m. contest.
Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led Susquehanna (199 overall) with nine kills and added two service aces, two blocks and a dig at Sagrado Corazon.
Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) banged out six kills and added a team-high three blocks. Cicioni also served two aces.

Susquehanna (197, 42 Landmark) defeated Goucher College on the first day of Round Two on Oct. 4.

The Crusaders have won three matches in a row and five out of their last six. They have clinched the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs and will play at home against Goucher College in the quarterfinals on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

SALISBURY, Md. — Susquehanna University head women’s volleyball coach John “Kuuipo” Tom picked up his 100th career win as Susquehanna went 1–1 on day two of the Salisbury Invitational at Salisbury University’s Maggs Physical Activities Center on Sept. 27.
Susquehanna (16–7 overall) defeated Gettysburg College (9–9 overall), 3–2 (25–22, 25–21, 21–25, 26–28, 16–14) in a 10 a.m. thriller before dropping a 3–1 (25–23, 25–19, 17–25, 25–8) decision to SUNY New Paltz (17–1 overall) in a 12 p.m. match.
All–tournament team honoree and sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led Susquehanna with 27 kills and four blocks against Gettysburg and added 13 digs. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) banged out 15 kills and added three blocks and 10 digs.
Freshman setters Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport–South Manor) dished out 31 and 11 assists, respectively. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) posted 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
In true fashion, junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) and junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) had fine all-around matches. McMahon led the Crusaders with three service aces and added five kills, nine digs, two assists and a block. Hals registered eight kills, two blocks, two digs and an assist.
Against New Paltz, Jankiewicz again led the Crusaders with 11 kills. St. Angelo handed out an SU-high 25 assists. Schroeder and freshman defensive specialist/libero Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) dug out 19 and 13 kill attempts, respectively. Downing served a team-high three aces, and Hals picked up a team-leading two blocks.
Tom is in his sixth season as Crusaders head coach. He has a career record of 100–94.

Jankiewicz added two service aces; Cicioni served one. Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) also posted three blocks and added seven kills.

St. Angelo led the Crusaders with 16 assists and also picked up a block. Chase handed out five assists in just one game.

Against Scranton, Jankiewicz led the Crusaders with 16 kills and four blocks and added seven digs and a service ace. Cicioni cranked out 12 kills and registered nine digs and three blocks. Hals picked up 10 kills and two blocks.
Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) handed out a team-high 43 assists, dug out 11 kill attempts and picked up a block.
Downing led SU with 12 digs and three aces. Schroeder posted 10 digs and served two aces. McMahon put together a well-rounded match made up of three kills, three assists, five digs and two blocks.
Despite the loss to the Royals, the Crusaders have won 14 out of their last 17 matches.

The win was the Crusaders' eighth in a row and 13th out of their last 14 matches.
Against Juniata, Jankiewicz posted a team-high five kills and a match-high four blocks (all solo). Chase's 16 assists led SU, as did Schroeder's 20 digs. Jankiewicz and Schroeder each served an ace.
Sept. 17: Susquehanna 3, Dickinson 2 Box Score
CARLISLE, Pa. Susquehanna University and Dickinson College battled to a wild five-game match with visiting Susquehanna coming out on top, 32 (1925, 2519, 2523, 3133, 1715), at the Kline Center on Sept. 17.
Susquehanna (122 overall) won its seventh straight match and 12th out of its last 13 to surpass its entire win total from last season. Dickinson (38 overall) lost its fourth straight match.
Susquehanna's sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led all players with 20 kills and racked up six digs. Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with 36 assists and added 12 digs and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) dug out a team-high 19 kill attempts and added three blocks as well. Downing's fine all-around match also led to totals of nine kills and a team-leading three service aces.
Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) had an SU-high four blocks and banged out six kills. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) posted 10 kills and contributed six digs. Junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) racked up eight digs and five kills. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and freshman defensive specialist/libero Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) had 15 and seven digs, respectively.
The Crusaders used a short bench in the tight match, as all eight of the aforementioned players played all five games.

Downing picked up 10 digs, while Schroeder and junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) both picked up nine. Downing added eight kills.
Hals led the Crusaders with 10 kills against Lycoming. She also collected two blocks. Jankiewicz piled up eight kills, while junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) had six. Cicioni also registered two blocks. Downing had seven kills and led Susquehanna with four aces. She also blocked two shots. Chase once again led the way with 28 assists. McMahon led the defense with 10 digs. Schroeder had nine digs.
Lycoming went 21 to place second at the quad, Baptist Bible went 12 to sit third and Marywood finished fourth by going 03.
Susquehanna has already matched its win total from last season.

SELINSGROVE, Pa. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) pounded out a match-high 10 kills and added two service aces and four blocks to help Susquehanna University blank visiting Albright College, 30 (258, 2516, 2512), at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium on Sept. 11.
Susquehanna (82 overall) had a decided edge in play over Albright (14 overall), as evidenced by the Crusaders' 27 kills to the Lions' 14 and a 92 edge in service aces.

Susquehanna (7–2 overall) topped King’s College, Pa. (6-2 overall), 3–2 (20–25, 25–18, 25–6, 20–25, 15–13), in a 10 a.m. match and FDU-Florham (1–6 overall), 3-2 (20–25, 25–21, 12–25, 25–23, 15–11), in a 12 p.m. match.
Against King's, freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led the Crusaders with 35 assists and added three kills. Sophomore outside hitter and all–tournament team honoree Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led SU with 18 kills, while sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban), junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) and junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) posted 8, 7 and 6 kills, respectively.
Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) led the defensive scheme with 16 digs, while Cicioni and Downing added 14 and 13, respectively.
The Crusaders tallied 14 service aces against the Monarchs.
Against Florham, the Orange and Maroon made a miraculous come-from-behind fourth-game win to force a decisive fifth game. The Crusaders found themselves in a nine-point deficit in the fourth game as the Devils stood within five points of the win. However, Susquehanna came back to take the game, 25-23. The momentum continued as SU captured the decisive game, 15-11.
Chase again led the Crusaders with 24 assists, while freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) dished out 22. Jankiewicz tallied 24 kills, and junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) added 11. Schroeder dug out 25 kill attempts, and Downing racked in 14.

Susquehanna (5–2 overall) topped DeSales University (3–4 overall), 3–1 (23–25, 25–16, 25–19, 25–12), in a 6 p.m. match and fell to York College, Pa. (4–1 overall), 3–0 (25–22, 25–17, 25–14), in an 8 p.m. match.
Against DeSales, freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) led Susquehanna with 15 assists and a service ace as the Crusaders won their fifth straight match. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom), junior opposite hitter Katie Peters (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) posted 14, 12 and 11 kills, respectively.
