Jankiewicz and SU Coaching Staff Selected to All–Landmark Conference Team

Historic Season Comes to an End; SU Wins Landmark Conference Semifinal, 3–2, Loses Final, 3–0

HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Susquehanna University ended its season by splitting a pair of matches in the semifinals and final of the 2008 Landmark Conference women's volleyball championships at Juniata College's Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 8.

Third-seeded Susquehanna (27–13 overall) topped No. 2 The University of Scranton (23–11 overall), 3–2 (19–25, 26–24, 25–18, 21–25, 15–12) in a five-set semifinals thriller at 1:30 p.m. before falling to nationally ranked No. 2 and No. 1-seeded Juniata College, 3–0 (25–21, 25–6, 25–19) in the championship match at 7 p.m.

The 27 wins earned by the Crusaders this year are the most in a single season in program history.

Susquehanna's sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led all players with 24 kills and added a team-high four service aces in an exciting match against Scranton. Jankiewicz also posted six blocks and nine digs. Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) banged out 10 kills, served two aces and registered seven digs and two blocks.

Freshman setter Lacey Chase (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) dished out an impressive team-high 36 assists in four games. Chase also served an ace and picked up five blocks and six digs. Fellow freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport–South Manor) posted 14 assists in just two games.

Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) and freshman defensive specialist/libero Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) dug out 17 and 15 kill attempts, respectively. Schroeder added a kill.

Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) put down a team-high six blocks to go with nine kills and two digs.

Sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) scored eight kills, served an ace and added five digs and two assists. Junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) contributed 14 digs, four kills and two assists.

Against Juniata, Jankiewicz posted a team-high eight kills and added three digs, one ace and one assist. Hals threw in five kills, two blocks and an assist.

Chase led SU with 13 assists and added nine digs, a kill and a block. Schroeder notched a match-high 16 digs, extending her own school career digs record to 2,103 in the final match of her collegiate career. She is the only 2,000-plus digs player in school history.

Cicioni had a match of four digs, an ace, two kills and two assists. McMahon registered four digs, an assist and a kill.
