SU Sweeps Round Two of 2008 Landmark Conference Round-Robin Play

KINGS POINT, N.Y. —Susquehanna University defeated The Catholic University of America, 3–0 (25–9, 25–22, 25–13) to sweep Round Two of 2008 Landmark Conference Round-Robin Play, held at the United States Merchant Marine Academy's James Liebertz Gym on Oct. 5.
Susquehanna (19–7, 4–2 Landmark) defeated Goucher College on the first day of Round Two on Oct. 4.
SU's sophomore outside hitter Lindsey Jankiewicz (Easton, Pa./Freedom) led all players with 14 kills and added two service aces, four digs and a block against Catholic (7–18, 2–4 Landmark). Junior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) added nine kills, one service ace, two digs and three blocks.
Freshman setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport–South Manor) (right) dished out an impressive match-high 29 assists and added 11 digs, two blocks and a service ace. Senior defensive specialist/libero Kellye Schroeder (Harleysville, Pa./Christopher Dock Mennonite) dug out a match-high 24 kill attempts and dished out two assists.
Junior middle hitter Jess Cicioni (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) and sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Alexandra Downing (Forty Fort, Pa./Bishop Hoban) both picked up six kills. Downing added six digs, a block and an assist.
Junior opposite hitter Erin McMahon (Catawissa, Pa./Our Lady of Lourdes Regional) had a fine all-around game of four kills, two service aces, four digs and an assist, and freshman defensive specialist/libero Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) picked up six digs.
The Crusaders have won three matches in a row and five out of their last six. They have clinched the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs and will play at home against Goucher College in the quarterfinals on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
