OSHKOSH, WI – The Susquehanna University track and field team was represented by senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) at the three-day NCAA Division III Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday afternoon.
In the men’s high jump competition, Marr cleared 1.98 meters to tie with two other jumpers for ninth place. Sophomore, Cody Stelzer of Whitworth University won the title with a 2.12 meter leap to break the J.J. Keller Field record of 2.07 meters set in 2006.
Marr, who claimed All-American accolades at the 2007 outdoor championship, finished his Susquehanna career as the 36th All-American in Susquehanna men’s track and field history, while being the only Crusader ever recognized as All-American in the high jump. In addition, he holds Susquehanna’s indoor high jump record at 2.04 meters and sits third on the outdoor list behind Chris Bierer and Adam Ressler with a personal best of 2.05 meters.
April 27: 2nd/6 at Landmark Conference Championships Final Results
BETHLEHEM, PA – Ten Crusader seniors concluded their track and field careers on Sunday during the two-day Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Moravian College. With 243.5 points, Susquehanna placed second behind the hosting Greyhounds. Moravian claimed the championship with 277 points while Juniata placed third with 151, Catholic fourth with 52, USMMA fifth with 47.5 and Goucher sixth with 27 points.
In addition to the team’s silver medal finish, freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) received post-meet recognition for his performances over the championship weekend. He mirrored his indoor championship honor of Men’s Rookie of the Year with a second place finish in the decathlon, a fourth place high jump finish and a sixth place spot in the pole vault. He scored 5668 points in the decathlon, merely 162 points off first place. In doing so, Eppleman won the shot and discus events and finished second in five additional events to earn his second place spot on the podium.
On Sunday, sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led the Crusaders on the track tallying two first place finishes to add to his 1,500 meter race win from Saturday. Thistle handily won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 9:26.12 at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field and took the 5,000 meter run in 15:37.96 to finalize his weekend performances.
Thistle did not act alone in backing a strong opening day with additional placing performances on Sunday. Seniors Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) and Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) captured second and third respectively in the triple jump with distances of 13.17 and 13.04 meters while Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) snatched the same 14 points in the hammer throw. Mudgett placed second with a 41.36 meter throw and Kane nabbed third at 41.07 meters.
Susquehanna racked in a handful of points on the track to finish out the two-day championship. First year track athlete, sophomore Keith Howell (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills), had a number of strong performances for the orange and maroon. Howell placed second in the 100 meter dash finals in a quick 11.08 seconds and aided in a second place relay finish, while also going 22.39 in the 200 meter dash to earn a third place finish. Susquehanna’s 4x400 relay composed of Nate Wineland (Glenside, Pa./Episcopal Academy), Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), Howell and Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional), finished in 3:23.86.
In the 400 meter dash, Kunhardt and Johnson finished two-four in 50.14 and 51.06 seconds for the Crusaders as Jalon Orzolak (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) snatched seventh in 52 seconds flat. Kunhardt also added a second silver place finish in the 800 meter run, finishing in 1:56.92 while J.J. Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) followed in seventh at 2:00.70.
A senior co-captain, Johnson closed out his Susquehanna track career with a second place spot in the 400 meter hurdles. He crossed the finish line in 55.54 seconds while junior Pat Donegan (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) added a seventh place finish for the Crusaders in 1:00.19. Donegan also snatched an eighth place finish in the 110 high hurdles, behind Semanchik in fifth and Lee Pharo-Frank (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown Area) in sixth. Semanchik went 15.81 seconds, Pharo-Frank 16.17 seconds and Donegan 16.76 seconds to tally eight points for Susquehanna.
In addition to the aforementioned event scorers, the Crusaders pinched points across the board to tag onto Susquehanna’s overall score. Robert Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) took fifth in the steeplechase and Jentre Deibler (Snydertown, Pa./Shikellamy) flowed in sixth with times of 10:50.14 and 10:52.70, while Orzolak placed sixth in the 200 meter dash in 23.277 and sophomore Justin Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) took seventh in the 200 dash finals in 11.81 seconds. Junior Stephen Drosdick (Verona, N.J./Verona) finished in fifth place with 4633 points in the decathlon and the Crusaders 4x100 relay team of Tony McIntosh (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove), Howell, Young and Orzolak finished in 44.03 seconds, good for third place.
April 26: at Landmark Conference Championships - Day One Day One Results
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men’s track and field team kicked off the two-day Landmark Conference Championships at Moravian College on Saturday.
After eight events, the Crusader men are second with 93.5 points, as Moravian leads the men’s standings with 98 points. Juniata follows in third with 62 points.
Of the eight events that are final, Susquehanna won four. Senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) won the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters to capture the gold, while freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) placed fourth with a 1.73 meter clear.
Senior John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) also snagged first place honors with a 4.66 meter pole vault clear, while Eppleman placed sixth at 3.90 meters and Billy James (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) eighth, also at 3.90 meters on a judge’s decision.
In the long jump, Susquehanna captured fourth and seventh with Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) and Marr jumping 6.82 meters and 6.24 meters, respectively.
In the throwing events, senior Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) won the javelin competition with a 52.55 meter chuck, while Ray Snarski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) placed third with a 50.10 meter throw and Frank Minniti (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge School) fifth, throwing 48.39 meters.
Junior Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) placed second in the shot put with a 12.60 meter heave, while Minniti picked up seventh in 11.43 meters. Mudgett also captured third place with a 37.08 meter discus throw, while Horton followed in fourth place at 35.89 meters.
Sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) cleaned up in the 1500 meter run, winning the event in 4:00.35 as J.J. Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) placed seventh in 4:10.02 and Mike Harahan (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) took eighth in 4:14.42. In the 10000 meter run, freshmen David Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Luke Trama (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) took sixth and eighth place in 34:23.85 and 35:00.25, respectively.
With five events complete in the men’s heptathlon, Eppleman sits second with 2903 points and Stephen Drosdick (Verona, N.J./Verona) is in fifth place with 2533 points after the first day of competition.
Several Crusaders advanced to Sunday’s finals in their respective events, with sophomore Keith Howell (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) placing third in the 100 meters (11.08 seconds) and fourth in the 200 meters (22.30 seconds). Sophomore Justin Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) will also advance to finals in the 100 dash (11.72 seconds) and Jalon Orzolak (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) in the 200 dash (23.11 seconds).
In the 400 meters, Susquehanna will send three to the finals with Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) placing first in the preliminaries (50.10 seconds), Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) fourth (51.77 seconds) and Orzolak seventh (52.20 seconds). In addition, there are three Crusaders competing in the 110 hurdles finals. Lee Pharo-Frank (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown Area) placed fifth in the preliminaries (15.85 seconds), Semanchik seventh (15.93 seconds) and Patrick Donegan (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) eighth (16.62 seconds).
The two-day championship event will conclude on Sunday with events beginning at 9 a.m.
April 19: at Greyhound Invitational Results
BETHLEHEM, PA – The Susquehanna University men’s track and field team participated at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian College on Saturday.
Sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led the Crusaders on the track with a 1:56.73 finish in the 800 good for third place. Meanwhile, freshmen Robert Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) and David Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed seventh and eighth respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:52.12) and the 5000 run (16:52.24).
Senior co-captain, Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) led the Crusaders with a 1.98 meter high jump to tie for third place, while fellow classmate John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) also captured a third place finish with a 4.65 meter clear in the pole vault. In the triple jump, senior Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) finished eighth with a 12.92 meter mark.
On the javelin runway, Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) grabbed a fourth place finish with a throw of 53.66 meters while in the hammer circle, junior Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) placed seventh throwing 44.98 meters.
April 12: at Bucknell Bison Classic Results
LEWISBURG, PA – The Susquehanna University men’s track and field team participated at the two-day Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University on Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday.
Senior co-captain, Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) led the Crusaders with a 2.04 meter high jump to provisionally qualify for the Division III Outdoor National Championships to be held at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, May 22-24. With the leap Marr tied for third place.
Another strong performance came from senior Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) in the 400 hurdles. He placed fourth of 30 participants with a time of 55.58 seconds, while fellow classmate John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) captured a fifth place tie in the pole vault with a 4.50 meter clear.
On the javelin runway, locals Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) and Ray Snarski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) grabbed fourth and fifth place finishes with throws of 52.05 and 51.35 meters, respectively.
Amidst the action Friday night, Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) placed 14th in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 9:31.70 minute finish.
April 5: at Muhlenberg Invitational Results
ALLENTOWN, PA – On Saturday, the Susquehanna University Men’s track and field team competed against 16 schools and over 600 athletes at the Muhlenberg Invitational. No team scoring was kept at the meet.
The Crusaders were led by three individual victories and a top 4x800 relay finish. In the field events, senior co-captain Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) captured the high jump with a 1.93 meter leap and junior Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) took the hammer throw with a 43.45 meter toss, while on the track, Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:43.96 minutes.
Also placing in the field events, senior Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) took third in the hammer (40.90m), followed by Frank Minniti (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge School) in sixth (36.50m) and Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) in seventh (35.44m). Horton topped his hammer performance with a 51.84 meter second place javelin throw, while Ray Snarski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) followed in third with a 50.41 meter toss.
In the jumping events, Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) jumped 6.53 meters to earn himself a third place finish in the long jump, as Billy James (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) took sixth in the pole vault (4.05m) and Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) placed eighth in the high jump (1.78m).
On the track, senior co-captain Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) placed second in the 400 hurdles in 55.46 seconds, while Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) finished third in the 400 dash in 50.79 seconds. Following Thistle in the steeplechase, freshman Robert Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) placed fourth in 10:45.97, while Semanchik finished fifth in the 110 hurdles in 16.58 seconds and Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) sixth in 11.64 seconds in the 100 meter dash.
Susquehanna's relay teams were led by the 3200 meter race in which the orange and maroon were victorious (8:05.69). Also faring well, the Crusaders placed fourth in the 400 meter relay (44.54) and sixth in the 1600 meter relay (3:31.88).
March 29: Five athletes victorious at 24th Annual Jim Taylor Invitational Results
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's track and field team hosted the 24th annual Jim Taylor Invitational at Nicholas A. Lopardo Stadium on Saturday afternoon. There were no team scores kept at the meet.
The Crusaders finished with five individual victories, in addition to multiple top-six finishers throughout the day. On the track, sophomore Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) won the 100 meter dash (11.06), sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) captured the 5000 meter run (15:25.16) and senior Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) was victorious in the 400 hurdles (57.48). While in the field events, Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) took the high jump (1.93m), while John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) captured the pole vault (4.25m).
Second-place finishes came from Jalon Orzolek (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) in the 400 meter dash (53.49), Simpson in the 200 meter dash (22.57), Ray Snarski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) in the javelin (55.58m), Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) in the discus (37.35m), Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) in the long jump (6.20m), while Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Vic Northern (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) knotted for second-place in the shot put (12.77m). The 1600 meter relay also battled for a second-place honor (3:27.87).
Many additional athletes finished third in the results as Nate Wineland (Glenside, Pa./Episcopal Academy) placed in the 400 meter dash (53.78), Northern in the discus (35.73m) and Billy James (Tamaqua, Pa. /Tamaqua) in the pole vault (3.95m).
Additionally on the track, Keith Howell (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) placed fifth in both the 100 dash (11.71) and the 200 meter dash (23.66m), while Josh Eidsvaag (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) and Pat Donegan (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) both placed fifth in the 400 dash (55.09) and the 400 hurdles (1:02.77), respectively.
In the jumping events, Marr also captured a fourth place finish in the triple (12.71m), as Semanchik followed in fifth (12.48m).
The throwing events concluded with Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) placing fourth in the hammer throw (39.59m), while Mudgett followed in fifth (37.58m). Mudgett also finished sixth in the discus (33.02m) and Horton gathered a fourth place finish in the javelin (52.71m).
Thursday-Saturday, February 20-22
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Susquehanna University men’s track and field team competed at the 49er Classic, a three-day meet, hosted by UNC-Charlotte over the long weekend.
Senior pole vaulter, John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) led the Crusaders in a two-way tie for second place with a 4.45 meter vault; while in the throws, junior javelin thrower Ray Snarski (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) earned a sixth place finish of 56.22 meters and senior Ian Horton (Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville) placed 10th with a 53.21 meter heave.
In a ninth place effort, freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) completed his first collegiate decathlon tallying 5251 points. Within his respective events, he tied for second in the high jump (1.82m) and third in the pole vault (4.14m).
On the track, sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) placed 12th in the 1500 meter run (4:01.44) on Friday and followed that performance with a 14th place finish in the 800 (1:57.61) on Saturday. Placing 15th in the 3000 was Robert Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) with a 9:47.09 finish.
Saturday, February 23: Indoor Landmark Championships
Results
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team hosted the inaugural Landmark Conference championships at the Garrett Sports Complex on Saturday. In the six-team meet, the Crusader men finished second with 179 points behind the Greyhounds of Moravian College with 194 points after a full day of back-and-forth battling for the lead.
Sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) earned his way to being named Indoor Track Athlete of the Year with three impressive gold medal finishes. He opened his day running a winning time of 4:24.80 in the mile. He followed that with a win in the 800 in a time of 1:57.77 and capped off his individual races with a 5000 win in 15:48.11. Barely winded from the 5000, Thistle stepped back onto the track and anchored Susquehanna’s second place 4x800 relay team finishing in a time of 8:19:02.
Also claiming gold on the track, sophomore Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) won the 400 dash in 50.14 seconds, more than one second faster than the rest of the field. Following in second place was junior Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) in 51.33 as Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) claimed fourth in 51.747, merely four thousandths of a second off the third place finisher (51.743).
In addition to his 400 honors, Simpson placed third in the 200 dash (22.87) and finished fifth in the 55 dash (6.66), while Kunhardt found himself standing atop the third place block for his 2:03.21 finish in the 800 meter run.
Brian Ross (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) and Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley), Landmark Indoor Rookie of the Year, placed second (8.00) and sixth (8.73) respectively in the 55 hurdle finals while J.J. Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) and David Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) pulled points for the orange and maroon in the distance events. Brooks placed fourth in the mile run (4:30.38) and Haklar sixth in the 5000 meter run (16:30.45).
Senior John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) led the Crusaders in the field events taking the cake in the pole vault with a winning height of 4.75 meters. Eppleman earned a second place spot clearing 4.40 meters. On his way to being named Rookie of the Year, Eppleman also tied for third in the high jump (1.77m) and finished fifth in the long jump (6.15m).
Senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) finished with a silver medal in the high jump clearing 1.87 meters while earning a bronze medal in the triple jump (13.18m). Classmate Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) earned himself two fourth place finishes in the long jump (6.43m) and triple jump (12.32m) while Steve Drosdick (Verona, N.J./Verona) finished fifth in the high jump clearing 1.77 meters.
In the throwing events, the Susquehanna men dominated placing two-three in both events and snatched sixth in the shot put to boot. Senior co-captain Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) fell just 10 centimeters off the gold place throw with a second place heave of 14.98 meters while Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) grabbed an additional six points for the Crusaders, finishing third with a 14.14 meter toss.
In the shot put, sophomore Vic Northern (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) captured second place with a 14.31 meter throw as Mudgett followed in third place (13.30m). Sophomore Frank Manniti (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge School) stepped up the finish sixth with a 11.81 meter hurl.
Susquehanna’s running squad proved their depth placing second in both the 4x200 (1:34.28) and the 4x800 (8:19.02) and third in the Distance Medley Relay (11:01.60). The men’s 4x400 team closed out the day’s action being the first to cross the finish line in the last event of the day; however a post-finish disqualification moved Moravian into first place.
The Landmark Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships finished with Moravian claiming the title with 194 points, while the Crusaders followed with 179 points on the day to place second. Juniata was third with 78 points, while USMMA and Catholic tied for the fourth spot with 29. Goucher rounded out the scoring with 13 points.
Saturday, February 16: Susquehanna Open Results
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team hosted the Susquehanna Open at the Garrett Sports Complex on Saturday. No team scoring was kept at the meet.
The first to cross the finish line in the final event of the day, the Crusader’s 4x800 meter relay of Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional), JJ Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) and Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) set a new school record of 8:11.36.
In addition to anchoring the record-breaking relay, Thistle also won the 5000 meter run in 15:26.85. Joining Thistle, sophomore Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) won his first collegiate 400 meter dash in 50.65 while also placing fifth in the 55 dash in 6.63.
Top finishers on the track included Brian Ross (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) in the 55 hurdles (third 7.95) and Johnson in the 400 dash (seventh, 52.08), while the men’s Distance Medley Relay ran a sixth place finish of 11:17.84. Keith Howell (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) finished eleventh in a field of 55 with a time of 23.77 while Brooks (800m, 2:03.76) and Luke Trama (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) (3000, 9:25.42) each placed fifteenth.
Clearing the Division III provisional pole vault height of 4.70 meters in his third meet running, senior John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) led the Crusaders in the field events with a second place finish. Following Calvo in the vault, freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) finished tenth clearing 4.10 meters.
Also clearing heights, Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) high jumped 1.93 meters for fourth place while Eppleman jumped 1.78 meters for twelfth. Marr also placed fourth in the triple at 12.71 meters. In the long jump, Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) finished tenth with a 6.12 meter jump while Ross found himself a twelfth place spot with 6.08 meters and Eppleman followed in thirteenth at 6.05 meters. Semanchik also placed tenth in the triple jump with a 12.16 bound.
The Crusader’s proved successful in the cage with a fifth place showing in the weight throw by senior co-caption Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) (14.61m) followed by a tenth place finish by Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) (13.69m).
Friday, February 8: Susquehanna Invitational Results
SELINSGROVE , PA – The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team hosted the Susquehanna Invitational at the Garrett Sports Complex on Friday. No team scoring was kept at the meet.
On the track, the Crusader men were led by sophomore sprinter Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) who captured gold in both the 55 meter dash (6.59) and the 200 meter dash (23.37). In addition to winning his individual events, Simpson aided in Susquehanna’s 4x200 second-place finish of 1:38.31. He was accompanied by Tony McIntosh (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove), Keith Howell (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Brian Ross (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy).
Racing in the mid-distance events, sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) finished second in both the mile and 800 meter run in times of 4:22.91 and 1:59.28 respectively. Freshman Luke Trama (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) placed fifth in 5000 meter run in 16:08.09.
Senior John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) led the Crusaders in the field events with a win in the pole vault successfully clearing 4.70 meters. Following Calvo in the vault, freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) tied for fourth at 4.25 meters.
Also clearing heights, Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) and Steve Drosdick (Verona, N.J./Verona) placed second and sixth in the high jump with jumps of 1.90 and 1.75 meters. In addition to placing in the high jump, Marr finished fourth in the triple jump (12.53m), while Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) followed in fifth place with a jump of 12.36 meters.
The Crusader’s proved successful in the throwing circle with a second place showing in the weight throw by senior co-caption Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) (14.78m) followed by a fifth place finish by Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) (13.14m). Mudgett also found himself a fifth-place spot in the shot put results with a toss of 12.72 meters.
Closing out the day, Susquehanna’s 4x400 relay of Nate Wineland (Glenside, Pa./Episcopal Academy), Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional), Jalon Orzolek (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) and Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) placed third with a time of 3:33.63 merely five hundredths of a second behind the second place finisher.
Friday-Saturday, January 25-26: Bucknell Bison Open Results
LEWISBURG, PA - The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team competed at the two-day Bucknell Bison Open on Friday and Saturday.
Leading the Crusader men was sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon), who won the 5000 meter run by over 27 seconds in a dominating time of 14:57.20.
Freshman Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) was part of a four-way tie for fourth place in the high jump, clearing 1.79 meters.
Also in the field, Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) finished in eleventh place in the weight throw with a mark of 13.85 meters.
On the track, sophomore sprinter Josh Simpson (North Braddock, Pa./Woodland Hills) tied for ninth in the 60 meter dash in 7.21 seconds, while finishing the 200 in a time of 23.57.
Crusaders Piotr Wrobel (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) and Steve Drosdick (Verona, N.J./Verona) finished back-to-back in thirteenth and fourteenth places in the 60 meter hurdles finals with times of 9.30 and 9.39 seconds respectively.
In the 400 dash, senior Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) finished fourteenth in a time of 52.49, while junior Jalon Orzolak (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) was the next Crusader finisher with a time of 54.15 seconds.
In the mile run, J.J. Brooks (Cogan Station, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) and Robert Steffen (New Castle, Del./Caravel Academy) finished back-to-back with times of 4:44.69 and 4:45.11, while Luke Trama (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and David Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished the 3000 meter run with respective times of 9:19.90 and 9:26.31.
Sunday January 20: Orange & Maroon Classic Results
SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's indoor track and field team hosted their first invitational of the 2007-08 season as 10 schools and over 350 athletes competed at the Orange & Maroon Classic at the Garrett Sports Complex on Sunday. No team scoring was kept at the meet.
On the track, the Crusader men were led by sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon), who won the mile run with a time of 4:21.00, while in the jumps senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) was victorious in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters.
Senior John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships after placing second in the pole vault, successfully clearing 4.71 meters. In the meantime, Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) captured third place in the triple jump as Marr finished in sixth with respective jumps of 12.48 and 12.10 meters.
Semanchik also placed in the long jump with a leap of 5.82 meters assuring him a seventh place finish, while Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) placed the same in the pole vault with a vault of 1.83 meters.
In the cage, the Crusaders were well represented with a second place finish by senior Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) throwing 13.96 meters in the weight throw as Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) followed with a 12.78 meter heave earning him fourth place. Sophomore Frank Minniti (Scotch Plains, N.J./Wardlaw-Hartridge School) placed eighth in the shot put with an 11.16 meter throw.
In other running events, senior Brian Ross (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) was third in both the 55 dash (6.80) and the 55 hurdles (8.02). Also third to cross the finish line was Luke Trama (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) running 16:34.79 in the 5000 meters as David Haklar (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) placed fifth in 16:46.88.
Senior co-captain Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) finished fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:03.52, while juniors John Kunhardt (Greenfield, MA/Frontier Regional) and Jalon Orzolek (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) finished fifth (53.90) and eighth (54.70) in the 400 dash.
The Crusaders closed their day with a second place performance of 3:34.60 minutes by Orzolek, Kunhardt, Nate Wineland (Glenside, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Johnson in the 4x400 relay.
Saturday, January 12: at Gulden Relays
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Five members of the Susquehanna men’s track and field team competed Saturday at the Gulden Relays hosted by Bucknell University.
Sophomore distance guru Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) led the Crusaders with the team’s sole first place finish. Thistle was victorious in the 3000 meters running a school record time of 8:42.10. Also on the track, senior co-captain Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) ran 1:08.28 in the 500 meters to finish in seventh place, while Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) finished in 9.37 to place ninth in the 60 hurdles.
In the jumping events at the Gerhard Fieldhouse, Susquehanna placed strong. Senior All-American Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) jumped 1.95 meters to tie for second place in the high jump, while Eppleman jumped 1.75 to take home ninth place honors.
Pole vaulters John Calvo (Pennington, N.J./Lawrence) and Eppleman cleared heights to place second (4.5 meters) and fifth (4.2 meters) respectively.
Saturday, December 1: at Bucknell Bison Opener
LEWISBURG, PA - The Susquehanna University men's track and field team opened its 2007-08 indoor season at the Bucknell Bison Opener on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Mike Marr (Muncy, Pa./Warrior Run) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships winning the high jump at 2.01 meters.
Other top finishers for the Crusaders included pole vaulters John Calvo (Pennington, NJ/Lawrence), who was seventh at 4.50 meters and Bobby Eppleman (Chester Springs, Pa./Great Valley) who took tenth clearing 4.20 meters. Junior Jon Kunhardt (Greenfield, Mass./Frontier Regional) finished ninth in the mile run with a time of 4:55.76 while senior Eric Johnson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) finished eleventh in the 800 meter run with 2:02.35.
Additional track competitors were Brian Ross (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) running the 60 meter dash (7.33), Jalon Orzolak (Bloomsburg, Pa./Homeschooled) in the 200 dash (24.52) and Nate Wineland (Glenside, Pa./Episcopal Academy) in the 300 dash (40.63). Orzolak (54.16) and Wineland (56.41) also competed in the 400 dash, while Piotr Wrobel (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) and Lee Pharo-Frank (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown Area) finished the 60 meter hurdles in 9.61 and 9.97 respectively.
Steve Semanchik (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) opened his senior season jumping 12.20 meters in the triple jump, while in the throws Vic Northern (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) threw 13.28 in the shot put and Jerry Kane (Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock) (13.79) and Justin Mudgett (Sykesville, Md./Century) (13.36) competed in the weight throw.
