Jim Findlay, Head Coach
(570) 372-4277 - findlay@susqu.eduFindlay

Jim Findlay enters his 11th season as the head coach of the Susquehanna University men's soccer team in 2008. With 83 career wins, Findlay is the winningest coach in program history.

He led the men's soccer team to its first appearance in the Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference championships in 2003 while garnering the conference's Coach of the Year award. The team returned to the championships tournament in both 2005 and 2006, advancing to the championship game for the first time in school history in 2006. The team also qualified for the Landmark Conference's first championships tournament in 2007.

Findlay also coached the Susquehanna women's soccer team from 1999 to 2005. He compiled a 65-53-6 record while at the helm of the SU women, including a 14-5-1 record in 2004. The women advanced to the Commonwealth Championships for the first time in school history in 2002 before falling in the championship game. The team returned to the championships tournament in 2003 and 2004, advancing to the final round again in 2004. Findlay was honored as the Commonwealth Coach of the Year for women's soccer in 2002 and 2004. Much like the SU men's program, he is the winningest coach in the women's team's history as well.

Findlay previously served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at Lycoming College during the 1996 and 1997 seasons, helping the men post a 22-15-1 combined record while the women improved from 3-14-2 in 1996 to 11-6 in 1997. He also had a brief playing stint with the National Professional Soccer League's Harrisburg Heat in 1996, but an injury forced him to the sidelines during the preseason.

Findlay was inducted into the Wheeling Jesuit University Athletics Hall of Fame in September 2007. He played soccer at Wheeling Jesuit from 1992 to 1995 and was a four-year all-region team honoree for the Cardinals as well as a four-year all-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference pick. He earned WVIAC Player of the Year honors as a senior in 1995.

Also as a senior, Findlay was named as a starter in the Umbro Select All-Star Soccer Classic, featuring the top senior players from all of NCAA Division II, Division III and the NAIA. He was chosen as Wheeling Jesuit's MVP as a freshman and a senior while serving as a captain during his final two years. He finished his career with the school record in assists (33) and fourth all-time in goals (32). He still ranks in the top five in program history in points (99).

Findlay graduated from Wheeling Jesuit with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice in 1996.

He is active in the community as an instructor/director at various camps and clinics for players and coaches and serves as co-director for the Susquehanna Valley Soccer Camps, held each year at Susquehanna University. He also holds a National Diploma Coaching Certificate from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Findlay is a native of Toronto, Ontario. He and his wife, Chrissy, reside in Selinsgrove, Pa., with their daughter, Caitlyn and son, Colin.

Terry Brennan, Assistant Coach

Selinsgrove, Pa., native Terry Brennan enters his 10th season as an assistant men's soccer coach under veteran head coach Jim Findlay in 2008.

Brennan graduated with a Master of Science degree in physical therapy from the then-College Misericordia in 1999 and played soccer for four years for the Cougars. He was a three-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference all-academic team member. In the 1996 and 1997 seasons, Misericordia won the PAC championship. The Cougars were ECAC Division III tournament finalists in 1994 and 1997.

Justin Makar, Assistant Coach

Justin Makar is in his second season as an assistant coach of the men’s soccer team.

A native of Weirton, W.Va., and a 2003 graduate of Sewickley Academy in Pittsburgh, Pa., Makar played soccer throughout his college career at Susquehanna University. As a four-year soccer player for current head coach Jim Findlay, he earned second-team All-Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference honors as a sophomore and junior. As a senior captain, he helped lead the Crusaders to the conference championship game for the first time in program history and was recognized as a first-team all-conference selection.

Makar graduated cum laude from Susquehanna in May 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He currently resides in Selinsgrove, Pa.
