Paone Wins Another Individual Title; Crusaders Finish Third at Nazareth Fall Shoot-Out
Results
VICTOR, N.Y.; ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Senior Nicholas Paone (Peckville, Pa./Valley View) won his second straight tournament in his final collegiate event, and the Susquehanna University men's golf team placed third of five teams at the Nazareth Fall Shoot-Out, held at Ravenwood Golf Club and Irondequoit Country Club from Oct. 5–6.
Paone (right) was the medalist at the SU Fall Invitational on Sept. 27 and took those same honors at this event by scoring a combined 147 over the two days to beat 24 other golfers. He fired a 75 on the first day at the par-72, 6,642-yard course at Ravenwood in Victor, N.Y., before scoring a 72 the next day at the par-71, 6,645-yard course at Irondequoit in Rochester, N.Y.
Paone had only one semester of NCAA eligibility left, so his 2008–09 season and collegiate career are complete.
Freshman Vincent DeMaio (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and sophomore Adam Puskar (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) tied for ninth place with scores of 155. DeMaio shot a 77 on day one and a 78 on day two. Puskar went 79–76.
Sophomore Ryan Redfern (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) fired a 160 (79–81) to tie for 16th. Freshman John Jaques (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) worked in a 78 on day two that counted towards Susquehanna's team total. (The top four scores out of a team's five golfers counts.) Jaques also totaled an 84 on day one to finish tied for 19th overall with a combined score of 162.
The Crusaders turned in a team score of 614. Allegheny College won the extremely close event with a 612, and St. John Fisher College was second with a 613.
