2008 program overview
Susquehanna Drops Nailbiter in Overtime, 2–1 Box Score READING, Pa. —Freshman Erin Ferguson (Mount Laurel, N.J./Seneca) made 10 saves, including three in overtime, but visiting Susquehanna University fell to Alvernia College, 2–1 in overtime, in a field hockey game on Sept. 7.
Alvernia (2–2 overall), improves to 2–1 in games decided past regulation. Susquehanna (1–3 overall) falls to 1–2 in such games.
Susquehanna's junior forward Andrea Fiori (West Trenton, N.J./Lawrenceville School) scored the game's first goal in the 22nd minute. Fiori collected a rebound in front of the Alvernia cage and beat the goalkeeper to the left side of the net for her first two points of the 2008 season. The goal was unassisted.
Ferguson was outstanding in keeping the visiting Crusaders ahead, 1–0 at halftime, despite being outshot, 13-3, in the first 35 minutes. (Both teams are nicknamed “Crusaders.”)
Alvernia scored in the 46th minute to force overtime and then netted the game-winner with just 1 minute, 11 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.
This game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m.
