Susquehanna to host Pepsi Night on Tuesday

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Tuesday is Pepsi Night at Susquehanna University as the Crusader men’s and women’s basketball teams will host Juniata College in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at O.W. Houts Gymnasium.

All fans in attendance at the twinbill will be treated to free hot dogs and Pepsi, courtesy of the Pepsi-Cola Company in Selinsgrove, Weis Markets and Kunzler’s Hot Dogs. The women’s game begins at 6 p.m. while the men’s game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. tipoff.

In addition to the hot dogs and beverages, the final Pepsi Halftime Shootout of the 2002-2003 season will be held at intermission of the men’s game, featuring all the previous Pepsi Shootout winners from men’s and women’s home games throughout the season.

Contestants will compete in an elimination format, being asked to make layups first, then free throws, and then three-point shots. Anyone missing will be eliminated, with all others shooting until a winner is determined.

The winner of the contest will receive a North American vacation package compliments of Pepsi. Pepsi officials provided funds four years ago for a high-fidelity sound system to be installed in Susquehanna’s O.W. Houts Gymnasium.

In the women’s game, the Crusaders (11-8 overall, 4-6 Commonwealth) will be searching for a victory against the Eagles (7-13 overall, 3-7 Commonwealth) in their effort to catch fourth-place Widener in the league standings. Susquehanna currently stands just one game behind the Pioneers in the race for the fourth and final Commonwealth playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the Crusader men (13-7 overall, 7-3 Commonwealth) will tip off in a tie for second place in the Commonwealth Conference with Elizabethtown, just one game behind Moravian for the top spot in the league standings. Juniata (11-9 overall, 6-4 Commonwealth) is in sole possession of fourth place in the conference, one game behind Susquehanna and two ahead of Lebanon Valley for the final playoff berth with four league games remaining.
