Ream Named Commonwealth Second-Team All-Star

SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University junior guard Alison Ream has been named as a Commonwealth Conference women’s basketball second-team All-Star in voting by the league’s eight head coaches, the conference announced Wednesday.

Ream (Mifflintown, PA/Juniata H.S.) was the leading scorer for a Crusader team that finished 9-15 overall and in seventh place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 3-11 league mark under 15th-year head coach Mark Hribar.

This season marks the first time since 1988-89 that Susquehanna has not placed at least one player on the conference’s first All-Star team.

Ream averaged 11.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for the Crusaders, finishing eighth in the Commonwealth Conference in scoring and third in assists. She also added a team-high 47 steals to rank eighth in the conference with an average of 1.96 per game.

Ream tallied in double figures 15 times in 24 games, including a career-high 23 points in the regular-season finale at Widener on February 16. She led the Crusaders in scoring eight times during the season and led or tied for team honors in assists in 14 different games during 2001-02.

Entering her senior season, Ream has averaged 7.7 points per game while playing in all 73 games through her first three seasons. She has connected on 42 three-pointers in her career to stand in a fourth-place tie on the Susquehanna career list.

Messiah’s Christina Vouriotis repeated as Commonwealth Most Valuable Player and a first-team All-Star, with the rest of the first team consisting of Brandy Preslovich of Juniata, Steph Tighe of Lebanon Valley, Amie Kretzing of Messiah and Tara Wozniak of Moravian.

Joining Ream on the second team were Nicole Stanley of Widener, Kelli Young of Juniata, Stephanie Scinto of Elizabethtown and Jennifer Northcott of Lebanon Valley, who was also named Rookie of the Year.

Lebanon Valley head coach Peg Kauffman was named Coach of the Year after leading the Flying Dutchwomen to a 23-4 record and the Commonwealth Conference regular-season championship.
