Susquehanna Men's Volleyball Club Team Captures Fifth at National Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Susquehanna University men's volleyball club team finished fifth out of 64 teams at the 2001 National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Volleyball Club Championships at the Bartle Hall Convention Center in Kansas City, held from Wednesday through Saturday.

The Crusaders (28-8 overall) competed in the Gold Bracket of Division II at the championships and posted a 7-1 record during competition. Susquehanna defeated Plymouth (N.H.) State, Northern Arizona, ninth-ranked Ohio Northern, Cornell, Connecticut, eighth-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Weber State before losing to top-ranked Biola (CA) College in the national quarterfinals by a 2-1 score.

Providence (Manitoba) College won the Division II Gold Bracket championship by defeating Biola in the finals.

Susquehanna will look for its third Middle Atlantic Club Volleyball Conference championship in the last four years on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at Messiah.
