Susquehanna University Presents
Revamped Quarterback Club
Revisions in bold italics
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — The Susquehanna University athletic department is featuring a revamped version of its annual Quarterback Club meetings for the 2008 season.
The Quarterback Club is a luncheon that takes place Fridays during Susquehanna University football season in the Apple Community Room of the university's James W. Garrett Sports Complex in Selinsgrove, Pa. An exception will be Oct. 24 this year because Susquehanna does not play on Oct. 25. Otherwise, the event will happen every Friday during the season whether the team is playing at home or away.
The meetings are slated for 12–1 p.m. The weekly cost for admission and lunch is $8.50. A yearly membership to the QB Club is $40. That amount does NOT include the weekly fee for lunch. QB Club members receive season tickets in a special seating section and admission to the club's annual postseason awards banquet.
The difference in this year's QB Club meetings is that each luncheon will feature a guest speaker who is a coach from an area high school football team. The first guest speaker this year — scheduled for Sept. 5 — will be Selinsgrove Area High School head coach Dave Hess. Hess is in his first season as the head coach of the Seals after serving as an assistant coach with the program for 24 years.
As in past years, the luncheons will feature the team's weekly Gus Weber Crusader Football Player of the Week, sponsored this year by Jeff Edmunds, attorney-at-law, and the law firm Carpenter & Carpenter. The award is named in honor of the late Gustave Weber, who was the university's president from 1959 to 1977. A collegiate football standout at Wagner College, Weber was an avid Crusaders athletics booster who even served as the team's head football coach for the final two games of 1965.
The sponsors will present $100 every Friday in the name of the Crusader Football Player of the Week to that player's favorite charity. The player of the week will also make a speech. There will be no player of the week during the first QB Club meeting due to no Susquehanna game being played in the previous week.
Susquehanna head football coach Steve Briggs and his staff will speak and show a highlight film every week with the exception of the first. Susquehanna director of athletics Pam Samuelson and director of athletics communications Robert Healy, III will also speak. Healy will act as emcee and will give a synopsis of the past week in Crusaders athletics. At the first meeting, he will also unveil exciting new plans for the university's athletics department, including the unveiling of a new athletics logo.
