Southern Columbia's Jim Roth Is Next Guest at
Susquehanna's QB Club Luncheon

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Southern Columbia Area High School head football coach Jim Roth is the next guest speaker at Susquehanna University football's weekly Quarterback Club meeting, to be held on Friday, Oct. 17, at 12 p.m.

Roth is in his 25th season with the Tigers, who have won six Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class A titles.

The Quarterback Club is a luncheon that takes place Fridays from 12–1 p.m. during Susquehanna University football season in the Apple Community Room of the university's James W. Garrett Sports Complex in Selinsgrove, Pa. An exception will be Oct. 24 this year because Susquehanna does not play on Oct. 25. Otherwise, the event will happen every Friday during the season whether the team is playing at home or away.

The weekly cost for admission and lunch is $8.50. A yearly membership to the QB Club is $40, which does not include the weekly fee for lunch. QB Club members receive season tickets in a special seating section and admission to the club's annual postseason awards banquet.

This week's Gus Weber Crusader Football Player of the Week, sponsored this year by Jeff Edmunds, attorney-at-law, and the law firm Carpenter & Carpenter, who will present $100 to the Player of the Week's favorite charity, is actually multiple players.

Junior running back Dave Paveletz (Warrior Run, Pa./Hanover Area) and the starting Susquehanna offensive line, comprised of junior left tackle Drew Champney (Victor, N.Y./Victor), senior left guard Brandt Waples (Media, Pa./Penncrest), senior center Cody Loeffler [Lewes, Del./Avon Grove (Pa.)], sophomore right guard Paul Russick (Pittston, Pa./Pittston Area) and sophomore right tackle James Rogers (Harker Heights, Texas/Harker Heights), will be honored.

Behind those linemen, Paveletz ran for a school-record 288 yards on a school-record 47 carries to lead SU to a 28–13 win over the University of Rochester in a Liberty League game on Oct. 11. Paveletz also led the Crusaders with three receptions and 37 yards against Rochester on his way to the Liberty's co-Offensive Player of the Week honor.

For the second straight week, the $100 is being donated to the Central PA Multiple Sclerosis Society. Paveletz was the Crusader Football Player of the Week last week as well.

The Crusader Football Player of the Week award is named in honor of the late Gustave Weber, who was Susquehanna's president from 1959 to 1977.

Susquehanna head football coach Steve Briggs and his staff will speak at the luncheon, show a highlight film and introduce Paveletz and the offensive line, all of whom will also speak. SU's director of athletics communications Robert Healy, III will give a synopsis of the past week in Crusaders athletics.
