Patch and Pope Honored as Conference Athletes of the Week

MADISON, N.J.; CANTON, N.Y. — Susquehanna University's senior guard/forward Joel Patch (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) and senior quarterback Derek Pope (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) were honored as a Landmark Conference and Liberty League Player of the Week, respectively, on Nov. 17.

Patch (left) was the Landmark's Player of the Week after leading Susquehanna with 33 points and 19 rebounds while his team won the season-opening White Rose City Classic at the York College of Pennsylvania from Nov. 15–16. He also posted three assists and a block throughout wins against Misericordia University, 76–67, on Nov. 15, and Neumann College, 59–57, the next day. Against Misericordia alone, Patch registered a double-double of 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to go with two assists. He shot an impressive 64.3 percent from the floor in that game. He scored a team-high 12 points against Neumann and pulled down eight boards.

Pope (right) was the Liberty's co-Offensive Player of the Week after tying his own career-high with a game-high 28 completions on 41 attempts, including three touchdown passes, despite a 51–45 loss to Union College. Pope threw for a game- and career-high 372 yards in his final collegiate game and rushed for a touchdown. He came into the game ranked fifth in school history in career passing yards and ended up third with 4,051.
