Field Hockey Dips to Seventh in Poll

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University field hockey team slid from sixth to seventh in the latest STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll, through games of November 3.

The Crusaders (16-2) saw their school-record 15-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of second-ranked Messiah last Tuesday by a score of 6-1 before rebounding to defeat Moravian 6-1 in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

Susquehanna, whose 16 victories are a school single-season record, will be the number-two seed in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs and host 15th-ranked Lebanon Valley (12-7) on Wednesday in the league semifinals.

Rowan (16-0) received all 28 first-place votes to maintain their hold on number one, followed by Messiah (13-3), Salisbury (13-2), College of New Jersey (11-2), SUNY Cortland (14-3) and Skidmore (15-2).

A total of four Commonwealth Conference teams are in this week’s poll as 20th-ranked Elizabethtown (10-5) joins Messiah, Susquehanna and Lebanon Valley in the rankings.

The Commonwealth Conference finals are set for Saturday and will be hosted by the best remaining seed. The winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships.
