SELINSGROVE, ( Pa. ) – Susquehanna University presents Disaster Narratives in Early Twentieth-Century Texas, a discussion featuring Barbra Mann Wall, as so ciate professor of nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. Wall's presentation, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. March 13 in meeting rooms 1-2 in Degenstein Campus Center .
Wall will discuss the experiences of ordinary men and women as they tried to make sense of two disasters that occurred in early 20th-century Texas. The talk will explore several questions, such as h ow contextual factors of time, place and language shaped narratives, and how persons affected by disasters choose to remember the traumatic events.
Wall is an award-winning historian of nursing. Her first book, Unlikely Entrepreneurs: Catholic Sisters and the Hospital Marketplace, 1865-1925, received an award from the American Association for the History of Nursing. She is book review editor for Nursing History Review and associate director of the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.
