WQSU MARKS 40 YEARS IN BROADCASTING, MAKES HOLIDAYS BRIGHTER FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN

SELINSGROVE, ( Pa. ) – WQSU-FM, 88.9 “The Pulse,” is closing its 40 th year of broadcasting with the annual Toys for Tots campaign. The radio voice of Susquehanna University , WQSU began broadcasting in 1967 with the intent of serving the public interest and training students in various forms of broadcasting principles and operations.

These purposes are manifest each year in the station's Toys for Tots campaign, held in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The program's objective is to help needy children in the Central Susquehanna Valley experience the joy of the holiday season. Donations of new, unwrapped gifts are being accepted through Dec. 20. Donation boxes are located at the WQSU station office in the lower level of Degenstein Campus Center , Garrett Sports Complex, the first floor of Selinsgrove Hall and under the Christmas tree in Mellon Lounge of Degenstein Campus Center.

WQSU, a 12,000-watt stereo station broadcasting to listeners in a 70-mile radius of campus, is the third most powerful college radio station and the 10 th most powerful non-commercial station licensed in Pennsylvania . The nonprofit, educational facility is operated by Susquehanna students, faculty and staff, and community volunteers under the direction of the Department of Communications. The station's operating expenses are underwritten by the Christopher D. Rooke '82 Endowment for Broadcasting.
