Assistant Director of Media Relations

Susquehanna University has an exciting opportunity for an individual with excellent communications, writing and editing skills, as well as sound news judgment. The assistant director of media relations, reporting to the assistant vice president for communications, will be responsible for media relations and assisting with the writing and editing of institutional print and electronic publications.

Specific media relations responsibilities include developing media pitches that support the strategic and reputation goals of the institution; ensuring the Web site contains current information on media placements, events and press releases; cultivating faculty and key staff to uncover story ideas; and interacting with local, regional and national news media as well as internal staff. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years’ experience in journalism, media relations or related field; proficiency in use of AP style; excellent and timely writing and editing skills; outstanding organization skills; and proven ability to recognize and place newsworthy stories.
