Schumann Festival Week
February 8, 2010–February 12, 2010
In celebration of Robert Schumann’s 200th anniversary year, Department of Music faculty members offer a generous survey of the great Romantic composer’s works, with five concerts on five consecutive evenings.
Feb. 8: Song Cycles
Tenor David Steinau and pianist Naomi Niskala perform two of Schumann’s essential song cycles, the Liederkreis, op. 39, and Dichterliebe.
Feb. 9: Chamber Music
Pianist Naomi Niskala is joined by Colleen Hartung, clarinet; Jill Marchione, oboe; Jeb Wallace, horn; Andrew Rammon, cello; and Marcos Krieger, piano, for an evening of chamber duos.
Feb. 10: Songs
Baritone Jason Steigerwalt ’05 returns to campus to perform the Liederkreis, op. 24, and other songs. With guest pianist Alan Murchie.
Feb. 11: Music for Piano
Pianists Galen Deibler, Marcos Krieger and Naomi Niskala perform an evening of solo piano music to include Papillons, Blumenstück, Kinderszenen and the C Major Fantasie.
Feb. 12: Vocal Chamber Music
Tenor Jeffrey Fahnestock, soprano Susan Hochmiller ’03 and guests perform the Spanish love songs for vocal quartet and piano, along with other songs.
