Meeting Minutes:

Association
FAA Minutes
10/16/04
President Ron Miller called the meeting to order at 10:35
a.m. There were 18 members in attendance.
Ron gave a report on the annual golf outing which was held on
Aug. 5th at Green Pond Country Club near
Easton
,
PA.
Ron stated we usually make between $1,000.00 and $2,000.00 on the
event. He would like to take the tournament to the next level and
realize $10,000-20,000 profit. Possible ways of obtaining this is
through corporate sponsorship and attracting more foursomes.
A brief discussion was held on the time and location of the
event. Due to the location of the course (we have many alums in the
Allentown/Bethlehem, Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey areas),
the affordability of the course, the meal and beverage cart—the
course at Green Pond was again reserved for the first Saturday in
August 2005.
The possibility of having two tournaments next year was
discussed. The second tournament would be held at SU on a Saturday
morning in September before the evening Ursinus game. Ron will look
into the possibility of having our tailgate party at President
Lemons after the tournament. Ron will send out a letter soliciting
more support for these tournaments.
Ron noted that all the secretarial work and mailings are done
by staff member, Linda Reichenbach. On a motion by Pat Gallagher and
seconded by Bob Pittello, Ron Miller was authorized to purchase a
$100.00 gift certificate at a local restaurant to show our
appreciation for the work she does for the FAA.
Bob Pittello gave a treasurer’s report. Our balance as of
10/12/04
is $1220.45.
Bob Pittello gave a progress report on the Stagg Memorial
Project. The cost of the project will be about $25,000.00. No formal
contract has been signed with the sculptor. A down payment is needed
before the work begins. Doug Arthur spoke about the need for more
recognition for the Staggs. He suggested the possibility of having
their names added to the sign under the press box. Gary Macia
suggested the name be placed directly on the field. Bob Pittello is
spearheading the effort to raise money for the project. Letters have
already been sent out to selected alumni who played under the
Staggs. A concerted effort to raise the funds will begin following
the football season.
A discussion on membership took place. Currently, there are
152 members in the FAA. Two areas were discussed to increase
membership. First, personalized notes could be sent from the team
captains to encourage participation. Also, regional meetings of the
FAA similar to alumni association meetings may increase membership.
Lists of captains and former players are available from Ron Miller.
Coach Briggs spoke briefly on the necessity of taking our
fund raising efforts to the next level. The fund raisers are
critical to the support of the football team. Coach Briggs stated
that schools we compete against are raising $40,000-50,000 with
their fund raisers.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
A tailgate luncheon served at President Lemons’ home was
enjoyed by all who attended.
Respectfully submitted,
Ken Vermillion, Secretary
