Women's Basketball Among Academic Best
SELINSGROVE , PA – The Susquehanna University women's basketball team has been recognized by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for its academic success. The team's cumulative GPA of 3.563 was fifth among NCAA Division III institutions.
Under second-year head coach Jim Reed, the Crusaders finished 15-11 overall and qualified for the conference playoffs for a second-straight year, falling to eventual champion Messiah in the semifinals. Eight team members earned Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team honors.
“This is an outstanding achievement for our women's basketball team,” said Pam Samuelson, Director of Athletics. “We are very proud that Coach Reed and his team show such dedication to their work in the classroom, in addition to their accomplishments on the court. They truly epitomize the ideals of Division III athletics.”
The WBCA awards recognize teams throughout the nation that have the highest grade point averages for the 2006-2007 season based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches. Hardin-Simmons University (3.664) took top honors in Division III.
