SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University junior shortstop Sarah Shaffer has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in softball for the week ending April 23, the conference office announced Monday.

Shaffer (New Castle, PA/Shenango) earned the award for the second time this season after helping the Crusaders to a doubleheader sweep of Lycoming in the team's only action last week by going 4-for-6 with a double, three triples and four runs scored along with two walks.

She scored the winning run to cap a three-run seventh-inning rally in a 5-4 win over the Warriors in game one, then hit an RBI triple and scored the tying run as part of a two-run rally in the seventh that tied the game before the Crusaders won game two 6-5 in eight innings.

For the season, Shaffer leads the Crusaders in nearly every offensive category as she is hitting .440 with 40 hits, 27 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples and five home runs. Shaffer is second in the conference in batting average and leads the league in slugging percentage (.769) and on-base percentage (.490).

The Crusaders (21-7 overall, 7-3 Commonwealth) will host Albright in a rescheduled doubleheader on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Sassafras Field.
