Paveletz Earns Team, League Player of the Week Honors
Eppleman Named Liberty Rookie of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Sophomore tailback Dave Paveletz's (Warrior Run, Pa./Hanover Area) career rushing performance against Moravian has earned him Player of the Week honors from both the team and the Liberty League, while freshman kicker Bobby Eppleman ( Chester Springs, Pa. /Great Valley) earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for his debut performance.
Paveletz is the season's first recipient of the Carpenter and Edmunds Gus Weber Player of the Week Award, and he was also named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week. He rushed for a career-high 169 yards and two touchdowns during the season-opening 34-27 loss to Moravian. His four-yard scoring run opened the Susquehanna scoring and made it 7-6 in the first, while an 11-yard jaunt in the second half eventually gave the Crusaders their first lead of the game at 21-20.
Carpenter and Edmunds will donate a check for $100 in Paveletz's name to the charity of his choice during Thursday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Apple Community Room in the James W. Garrett Sports Complex.
The Player of the Week award is named after Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College . He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.
Eppleman garnered the league rookie honors as he connected on both of his field goal attempts, averaged 53 yards per kickoff, and was 1-for-2 in PATs. After having his first PAT attempt blocked, Eppleman was perfect the rest of the way -- connecting on a 24-yard FG to extend Susquehanna's lead to 24-20 with 5:30 left in the third, and then he tied the game at 27 with a 32-yard FG with 9:49 left in the game.
The Crusaders (0-1 overall, 0-0 LL) travel to Lebanon Valley on Saturday at 1 p.m.
