Two Crusaders Among Inaugural Landmark Players of Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Following its first weekend of competition, the LandmarkConference has recognized ninestudent-athletes as Players of the Week, two of them being Susquehanna student-athletes.
In women's soccer,
junior Karen Florio
(Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors. She was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Crusaders claimed the title of their own Susquehanna Classic. Florio opened the 2007 campaign by notching a pair of goals and an assist as the Crusaders downed Alfred. The followed up that effort by scoring her team's second goal in a 3-0 win over Pitt-Bradford on the second day of the tournament. Florio entered the season with just one career goal in her two previous years.
Sophomore Paul Thistle (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) was named the Player of the Week in men's cross country. He was the top runner for Susquehanna as the team opened the season at the Bucknell Bison Open. Thistle crossed the line in third place, behind two runners from Bucknell, and covered the three mile course in a time of 19:19.72. That time marked a 23-second improvement from his performance at the meet during his freshman year.
The Player of the Week selections are made by the Landmark Conference office. The conference chooses offensive and defensive players of the week in field hockey, men's soccer and women's soccer, along with a player of the week in volleyball, men's cross country and women's cross country.
