Smith Named Volleyball Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – Susquehanna University senior Cheryl Smith has been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week in volleyball for the week ending October 30, the conference office announced Monday.
Smith (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) averaged 4.1 kills and 5.3 digs per game for the week as the Crusaders finished the season with four victories in their final five matches to end at 20-16 overall and 2-5 in the Commonwealth Conference.
She became Susquehanna's single-season and career leader in digs in a 3-0 win over Widener on Tuesday night, then became the third player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill mark for a career in a victory over St. Mary's (Md.) at the Seahawk Invitational on Saturday as the Crusaders went 3-1 and finished second in the tournament.
Smith ended the season with 367 kills, 542 digs and 63 service aces, while for her career she finished with 1,018 kills and school records of 236 service aces and 1,334 digs.
