Men's Soccer, Field Hockey in Commonwealth Semifinals

SELINSGROVE, PA – The Susquehanna University men's soccer and field hockey teams will be in action on Wednesday night in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals, with field hockey hosting Lebanon Valley at 6:00 p.m. at Sassafras Field and men's soccer traveling to Elizabethtown at 7:00 p.m.

Admission to each event is $5 for adults and $4 for seniors. Susquehanna University students who show their school identification at either game will be admitted free of charge compliments of the Varsity Club.

The Crusader field hockey team (10-8 overall, 5-2 Commonwealth) is the number-two seed in the four-team tournament as it makes its first playoff appearance since 2002, when Susquehanna also hosted Lebanon Valley in the semifinals and defeated the Dutchmen 2-1. In the only other postseason meeting between the schools, Lebanon Valley won 1-0 in 2000.

In the regular-season meeting between the schools, the Crusaders won 2-1 in overtime at Lebanon Valley on Oct. 8 as sophomore Megan Sites scored the winning goal 50 seconds into the extra session.

The winner of Wednesday's game between the Crusaders and the Dutchmen (15-4 overall, 5-2 Commonwealth) will face the winner of the other semifinal game between top-seeded Messiah (14-2 overall, 7-0 Commonwealth) and fourth-seeded Elizabethtown (13-4 overall, 4-3 Commonwealth) on Saturday for the conference championship.

Susquehanna's men's soccer team (9-7-1 overall, 4-2-1 Commonwealth) clinched the third seed in the conference playoffs with wins over Lebanon Valley and Moravian last week, and will look to defeat the Blue Jays (13-3-2 overall, 6-1 Commonwealth) for the first time in program history.

Elizabethtown, the defending Commonwealth Conference playoff champion, defeated Susquehanna 3-2 on Sept. 21 at Elizabethtown to improve to 45-0-1 all-time against the Crusaders.

The winner will face the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal match between top-seeded Messiah (17-0 overall, 7-0 Commonwealth) and fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley (7-8-1 overall, 2-4-1 Commonwealth) in Saturday's championship match.
