Edwards Named Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week
SELINSGROVE, PA – For the third time this season, Susquehanna University junior halfback Anthony Edwards has been selected as the team's Gus Weber Crusader Player of the Week, sponsored by the Golden Corral Family Steak House along Routes 11 & 15 in Shamokin Dam.
Edwards (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks West) carried 30 times for 170 yards and both touchdowns in a 48-14 loss to eighth-ranked Delaware Valley on Saturday at Lopardo Stadium, scoring on runs of 33 and 32 yards.
Edwards is fourth in the Middle Atlantic Conference and 41st in Division III in rushing with 743 yards on 150 carries (106.1 yards per game), and needs 257 yards over the final three games to record the fourth 1,000-yard season in program history.
The Golden Corral will donate a check for $100 in the name of Edwards to the charity of his choice during Friday's Quarterback Club luncheon at noon in the Shearer-Weber Dining Room in the Degenstein Campus Center.
Now in their ninth year of sponsorship of the Gus Weber Player of the Week award, Golden Corral has donated $7,900 to charity in the names of Susquehanna players.
The Player of the Week award is named after former Susquehanna University president Gustave Weber , who served as president of Susquehanna for more than 18 years and was a former standout player at Wagner College. He was an avid booster of Crusader athletics, and in particular the football team, which he coached for the final two games of the 1965 season.
The Crusaders (2-5 overall, 1-5 MAC) travel to FDU-Florham on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
