Greg Jones '10, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship Emphasis | Brooklyn, N.Y.The intimacy of the Susquehanna campus and the welcoming attitude really attracted me when I first visited. The morale of the students was so high it was contagious. My sophomore year I began managing the Center for Diversity and Social Justice. I’m proud to say we started the university’s first historically black fraternity and sorority. I’m now the president of the fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma, and we have our own house. We stress academics and service, and last semester we were the leading fraternity in terms of community service.
The business school’s London Program was the best experience I’ve ever had. For three-and-a-half months last spring we lived in the center of London and ended up visiting 13 countries. Ten of those we did on our own on weekends, and the experience was truly ours. We lived in hostels, met young people and really got inside the cultures. I loved the food: a pork dish with scalloped potatoes in a German beer house, fresh-rolled pasta with shrimp in Rome. I learned I can adapt to different situations and could easily travel for business. As part of the 18 credits worth of classes we took, we made a marketing pitch to a Czech firm, an online florist, that recommended they use someone like a Martha Stewart to be the company’s public face.
In Selinsgrove or London the Susquehanna faculty and students really encourage you to excel, and there are more than enough resources to help you achieve your goals. The faculty are very dedicated and most also have real life business experience that is really valuable to students. Ten years from now I hope I will have earned a joint law/MBA degree and I’ll be working for a young company that I can help mold and build.
