Carnegie Hall Concert Kicks off Anniversary Celebration

Susquehanna University launched its sesquicentennial celebration with a gala performance on March 7 by the SU Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Concert Program

  • Susquehanna University "Alma Mater" (Chorus and Brass; arr. Kevin Henry)
  • Address by Susquehanna University President L. Jay Lemons
  • Randol Alan Bass: "Gloria"
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams: "Dona Nobis Pacem"
  • Patrick Long: "Rain, River, Sea" (Jennifer Sacher Wiley, conductor)
  • Gustav Holst (arr. Wayne Dietterick '74): "O God Beyond All Praising"

The evening featured alumni and faculty soloists, an address by President L. Jay Lemons, the reintroduction of the Susquehanna University "Alma Mater" and a premiere performance of "Rain, River, Sea" written by Patrick Long, associate professor of music.

Nearly 100 alumni performed with the SU Masterworks Chorus under the direction of Cyril Stretansky, professor of music, who will be retiring at the close of the 2007–08 academic year. Jennifer Sacher Wiley, associate professor of music, directed the 65-piece SU Masterworks Orchestra.
